Common problems and solutions
The seam ripples or warps
Possible cause: The pieces were glued under tension and changed shape as they relaxed.
Solution: Position both pieces without tension. If needed, stretch them gently until they lie flat and relaxed.
The bond does not hold
Possible cause: The adhesive was not aired long enough or the surfaces were not clean.
Solution: Degrease the surfaces carefully. Apply a thin, even layer to both sides and let it air for 5-10 minutes until matte before pressing.
Air bubbles in the seam
Possible cause: The pieces were joined too quickly over too large an area.
Solution: Start at one side and join the pieces gradually with the seam roller, pushing air outwards.
The seam breaks under load
Possible cause: The wrong adhesive was used or the bonding surface is too narrow.
Solution: Use vulcanising latex adhesive and plan for at least 5 mm of bonding surface.
